Ms. D's Butterfly Garden

Updated: Nov 15, 2021

I had a lovely lady reach out to me and ask me to build her a butterfly garden. The space was about 300 sq. ft. and covered in gravel. It has now been converted to 300 sq ft of native butterfly habitat. What was once a field of gravel is now a beautiful native Florida garden with 17 species of native butterfly attractors. There is a healthy mix of larval host plants, nectar plants, woody herbaceous plants to provide shelter, and a water source for the butterflies. I was also able to incorporate a few nitrogen fixers and shrubs that will provide food for birds. Once the plants were in, the garden was topped off with a layer of compost and I added healthy bacteria and mushroom spores (to rebuild the mycelium in the soil).
